Tim Reisert writes songs with meditation, nature, and memory close to the surface. His songs bring the listener into a shared world. He began writing songs while living in New York City, then spent a few years involved in the DIY music scene in Phoenix, Arizona. He currently lives and teaches in Cincinnati, Ohio. His album Viewfinder is a love letter to the natural world–with no expectation of a reply. It is his view of the natural world through the lens of fatherhood, love, and photography. [00:00:07] Speaker A: Hi, welcome back to the Nathan's and Roncast. Here's another mini episode. This is actually the 11th mini episode we've done and so thank you for coming with us on this journey. [00:00:17] Speaker B: This week we feature the father of. [00:00:19] Speaker C: One of my cello students. [00:00:21] Speaker A: His name is Tim Reisert and he. [00:00:23] Speaker C: Writes songs with meta nature and memory close to the surface. His songs bring the listener into a shared world. [00:00:30] Speaker A: He began writing songs while living in. [00:00:32] Speaker C: New York City, and then he eventually. [00:00:34] Speaker A: Was in the DIY music scene in Phoenix, Arizona. And that happens to be just down. [00:00:39] Speaker C: The street or actually up the road from Tucson, Arizona. [00:00:42] Speaker B: And Tucson is my hometown, which is. [00:00:45] Speaker C: In the southern part of Arizona, and. [00:00:46] Speaker B: Phoenix happens to be the capital of Arizona. [00:00:48] Speaker A: So when I meet a songwriter who. [00:00:51] Speaker B: Has a connection to the desert, it really makes me so, so excited to share their music with other people. [00:00:56] Speaker A: Tim Reisert has lived and teaches in Cincinnati, Ohio. His poetry has been published in root and Star. His newest album is called Viewfinder and. [00:01:06] Speaker B: That was released in 2023 on sofa Burn Records. You can find it on bandcamp and. [00:01:11] Speaker C: All the various usual places. [00:01:13] Speaker B: The song that we're going to share. [00:01:14] Speaker C: With you is called oleander true. [00:01:18] Speaker B: Now that stuck out because I was like, I know what an oleander tree is. And that plant I always knew as. [00:01:25] Speaker A: A kid was like, don't eat the leaves. Our parents said, not my favorite plant. [00:01:29] Speaker B: But it does surround the desert and is a part of that imagery. These lyrics start out with if we. [00:01:35] Speaker C: Wait outside a phoenix church under streetlight faith if this takes little as a stone beneath the okotio, then I see another you and the oleander true. If we hold what the wind will carry home if red yarn thrown tangles and sways names what we know, then I see another you and the oleander true. If we brace against what comes and what will say if we know where. [00:02:02] Speaker B: The reins wash to the Rio salado. [00:02:05] Speaker C: Then I see another you and the oleander true. In the oleander true. [00:02:10] Speaker B: In fact, I just read all the. [00:02:11] Speaker C: Lyrics because it's such a beautiful poem. You can see why he's been published as a poet. So without any further delay, here is Tim Reisert's oleander true from his newest release called Viewfinder. [00:02:44] Speaker D: On our tulip tree and overcomes will. [00:02:51] Speaker E: Be what we believe. [00:02:56] Speaker D: And call up those times when all seem lost. [00:03:04] Speaker E: And. [00:03:04] Speaker D: Send them up on a summer swiss. [00:03:12] Speaker F: Hoola trade. Oh I to love tree. [00:03:25] Speaker D: Like when we gather we're dried in our yard, hollyhock and a bleeding heart that night we named the moon by its mouth and fixed as a fact that we held once. [00:03:56] Speaker F: Oh, a tula tree, oh. [00:04:05] Speaker E: To love tree close. [00:04:23] Speaker D: Beneath those stars the bears and bell we sleep to that tight locus well, the screen door slaps where small mouth rest it's shimmer our life and all we've left. [00:04:52] Speaker F: Oh, to love tree, oh to love tree. [00:05:05] Speaker D: And when we find that window of a home to trace its frame, its heap and gold wombs, trunk to branch to leaf and oh by the light.
