[00:00:09] Speaker A: Welcome to the Ronstadt Radio podcast, where we feature the music from the Ronstadt family that you probably have never heard. I'm your host, Michael G. Ronstadt, and we're going to start out this episode with the same artist we finished last episode that features Jon Ronstadt from the group Round Midnight. And here is the song Round Midnight, performed on his album maiden voyage in 1994. [00:00:40] Speaker B: A pale and lonely moon lights up the sky in the dark before the dawn I sit here in my room oh, how I sigh for the day that's come and gone. Another lonely day passes by and a new day's coming on at midnight it begins to tell Round midnight, round midnight. Well, I do pretty well till after sundown supper time I'm feeling sad but it really gets bad round at night Memories always start round midnight, round midnight I haven't got the heart to stand these memories when my heart is still with you and old midnight, he knows it too. When some quarrel we've had needs mending does it mean that our love is indeed? Oh darling, I need you and lately I find you're out of my arms and I'm out of my mind. Let our love take wing some midnight Round midnight. Let the angels sing for your returning. Let our love be safe and sound. When old midnight comes around. Every day is gonna bring some sadness and every day is gonna bring some gladness. Oh, so take what you can of the glad times. Don't you measure your pleasure in the coals and dimes. You better look back on today. [00:07:59] Speaker A: And. [00:07:59] Speaker B: You know when you've been unhappy fears darn chased away Just might at night have a day Let your eyes put up of the light at that time. Round Midnight. [00:09:02] Speaker A: That was a wonderful rendition of Round Midnight, performed by Jon Ronstadt on vocals and the group Round Midnight, which is a jazz group from Tucson, Arizona, and it's from their album Maiden Voyage, recorded in 1994. We're gonna move back over to the Ronstadt cousins from their Live and Canelo album, and this song is called paradise, written by John Prine. You can sing along if you. [00:09:41] Speaker B: When I was a child, my family traveled western Kentucky, where my parents were born. Little old town that's often remembered so many times that the memories are worn. Daddy, won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County? Down by the green river where paradise lives. Sorry, my son, but you're too late in asking Mr. Peabody's Coltrane's holiday Way. Now sometimes we travel right down the greener river by the old prison down by Dris Mill Hair smell like snakes and we'd shoot with our pistols Empty pop bottles was all that we'd kill Daddy, won't you take me back to Muhlenberg county down by the green river where paradise lays Sorry, my son, but you're too late in asking Mr. Peabody Scott Co. Came with the world's largest shovel Tortured timber and they stripped all the land mine for the coal Till the land was forsaken and they wrote it all down in the progress of man Daddy, won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County? Down by the green river where paradise lays Sorry, my son, but you're too late in asking Mr. Peabody's Coltrane's holiday way When I die let my soul roll up the green river Let my ashes flow down to the Rochester Dam I'll be halfway to heaven with paradise waiting Just five miles away from wherever I am Daddy, won't you take me back to Mu Muhlenberg county down by the green river where paradise lays Sorry, my son, but you're too late in asking Mr. Peabody's coal train is Holiday way Daddy, won't you take me back to Muhlenberg County? Down by the green river where paradise lives Sorry, my son, but you're too late in asking Mr. Peabody's Coltrane is hauling it away Mr. Peabody is holding away. [00:13:11] Speaker A: That'S a rousing rendition of paradise written by John Prine. Very different than the original. And I have taken that to heart because when I cover something, I try to make it different. Now, the next song is one from one of my albums released in 2020. It's called Wildly Ethereal Shaken Earth, Volume 4. And it's a collaboration between me and the percussionist extraordinaire named Will Klippman. Enjoy this song called Brand New Era. [00:13:38] Speaker B: And it's the first track on the album. It. It's. It's. [00:20:29] Speaker A: I remember improvising that in the studio and just smiling, going, okay, now we can do this album. The entire album was recorded in order and presented that way. And all we did was add a few little things after the fact. You've been listening to the Ronstadt Radio Podcast, hosted by me, Michael G. Ronstadt. We'll see you at the next episode, and I hope you have a wonderful, wonderful week. Thank you.
