[00:00:06] Speaker A: Hi, this is Michael Ronstadt from the Nathans and Ron cast. Today we feature a very special artist based out of Cincinnati, Ohio. Her name is Rachel Moussey, and she was born and raised in Cincinnati. Her songs feature spare but meaningful piano parts, looped vocal harmonies and percussive rhythms behind melodic vocal lines. Rachel aims to make music that makes people feel something, and when you listen to it, you're going to agree there's nothing that is there for no reason. Everything you hear matters during the day. She's a clinically licensed social worker at Cincinnati Children's Hospital and a child mental health therapist. Oftentimes, her lyrics pull from her experiences in her professional and personal life, and they aim to address issues that mean something to her. The song we're featuring is called I can do what you can do. Rachel writes that she wrote this song as part of a songwriter group intended to help increase creative output and musical content. The prompt for this song was Annie Oakley. She dug into the history of this incredible woman as well as how she was portrayed in popular media such as the musical Annie get your gun. She was pretty grossed out by the fact that a happy ending meant Annie making herself smaller or less threatening to her love interest so that she could marry him. She rejects the idea that women must make themselves smaller, quieter or less competent so as not to bruise fragile male egos. This song speaks to those feelings and frustrations, and that's all I'm going to say about it because I'm going to let Rachel speak for herself through the song. [00:02:30] Speaker B: I can do what you can do I can do what you can do. He said, honey that might be the truth but it's important that you do away with who you knew you become brand new ran any side bad up to show him your softer side, so speak. She said, I can do what you can do. I can do what you can do. He said, honey that might be the truth, but it's important that you do away with who you knew. You don't become new you she said, I can do what you can do. She said, I can do what you can do. He said, honey that might be the truth but it's important you do away with who you knew yourself to be.
